What a difference a year makes!

A little over a year ago, you placed your trust in me by electing me to represent you in Congress. I was and am still honored by your choice, and I have worked hard to fight for you, your family, and your friends.

Being a new Congressman is challenging, and even more so when serving as a member of the minority party when the majority rules using narrow, oppressive rules. Often, leaders of the majority party give us little to no time to read legislation before asking us to vote on it. As a result, legislation that has exploded our national debt, wasted countless hundreds of billions of your taxes, and deepened the recession has been passed by bare partisan majorities. I have voted against all of these.

In just one year’s time, we have gone from hope and change to a quadrupling of the federal deficit, an unemployment rate that teeters at 10%, and a mind boggling policy towards Afghanistan that confuses our allies and emboldens our enemies.

The good news is new hope is just around the corner.

It’s time for me to begin gearing up my campaign in anticipation of a significant challenge. Political experts say it is easiest to defeat a Congressman in his first re-election attempt, but I assure you, I will defy them. Any opponent running against me will find me hard to beat.

Why? It’s because of supporters like you.

You’ve stood with me throughout this year, fighting against wasteful government spending, against the Cap-and-Trade tax increase for working families and small business owners, and against a government takeover of our health care system. You’ve also fought alongside me for these things: lower taxes, less regulations, more jobs. If the election taught us anything, it’s that our country still believes in a limited government that should not overreach in its mission. I believe we can produce a sensible energy policy and reform health care in ways that encourage growth, personal responsibility, and a shared commitment to a better America.

I will continue to work towards this in Congress and I need your continued support to do so. The White House and liberal leaders have placed a target on Members of Congress like me who do not support their big government agenda that has quadrupled the Federal deficit and cost us 3.5 million jobs since the beginning of this year. I need your help to defeat them.

Working together, we can fight the tax increases and wasteful spending and work towards a stronger, better America. Please contribute today. Your support is truly appreciated.

Your Friend,

Glenn Thompson

GT Thompson, Member of Congress
5th District, Pennsylvania

P.S. I really am hopeful the tide has turned and Americans who believe in a limited government that works for them are out in force to make our country better. I intend to be one of the leaders in making government work for you, and I hope you’ll continue to support the effort. Thank you again.
